Chronicles of JAG
Tale of the Deluge
(a lost fragment of the writings of the Prophetess of Ys)
Hear ye! O Paddlers of JAG!
Yea even unto the gates of Sher-Brooke did they paddle, verily with an appearance of great ease, as like angels before the Flood. And there in that place of dark mysterious ever changing Waters were they tested unto the end of their Strength. Three times were they tested for three is the number of the Testing, and the number of the Testing shall be three as was thrice ordained by the Powers of the Lake in the time of their Creation. Three times did the Companions of JAG hurl themselves against the Barrier. In the first Trial they were nearly overcome by a combined onslaught of the Waves of Thunder, three R Dragons, and a Fei Long...but hear ye! Though their Power fled from them, they were not entirely undone, for their great Courage sustained them and they paddled doggedly on. The Powers of the Lake, displeased that the Companions of JAG had not been entirely vanquished in the first assault, unleashed an unnatural Rain and deadly chilling Breeze upon the embattled paddlers. Yea, but that their Spirit remained strong! Glorying in the sustaining Words of Great Wisdom from their Guides in those accursed Waters and Chocalote travel Brown-ees whose near Magical restorative properties fortified their resolve, battle is joined once again. In this the second Test did they call upon the aid of their Sworn Allies: Kid Kennedy, the Blood Sister, Lady Secher, and the Lost Companion Michelle. With their full Power did they attack the Barrier of Tofyvo only to be thrown back once more unto the roiling waters of the Lake. Hark! Be not dismayed! For the strength of their unchained Fury greatly weakened the Barrier and the Powers of the Lake, and though their Allies were forced to return and defend their own Boats, the Companions of JAG took heart that so few were lost. Hope still beat in their Breast! Lo! For though they were again rebuffed, they had gained enough water to aid them in their Struggle. Behold! In preparation for the final Testing did they dance the dance of the Warming Time to put the Fire of Battle in their Blood and Bones and strike their enemies with a slowing Fear. Donning his Cloak of Golden Sunlight and Helm of Wo-ol the Oarsman gathers the Companions of JAG for their Last Battle. The Little Drummer Girl perched precariously on the exposed bow of their Dragon Boat calls upon the Spirits of the Paddlers of JAG of Old to aid in the Struggle. This final time, with all that they have they find the Breach in the Wall of Tofyvo and pass through, unharmed, alive and paddling with an appearance of great ease, as like angels.
